What is an Honor Guard?

Christmas ConcertHonor Guardsmen are “Ambassadors for Civil Air Patrol.” It is their duty to assist in recruiting and retention, to assist in making this a drug-free universe by supporting the Drug Demand Reduction Program, to assist any ceremonies, to present the colors when the unit color guard is not available, and to assist in funerals when requested. To be part of the Unit Honor Guard, members must have high standards in appearance, education, conduct; an aptitude for ceremonial duty, professionalism; and the will to make a difference to the future of America.

What time commitment is required?

The VA-108 Honor Guard Team currently practices once a month for 3 hours on a Saturday or Sunday in the afternoon.  When an important event is upcoming, there may be additional practice required.  

The Honor Guard currently perform as VIP escorts in the annual Wreaths Across America Remembrance Ceremony at Quantico National Cemetery.  They perform Honor Cordon wreath-laying for special site-specific requests following the ceremony.  At the squadron Dining Out, they perform the POW/MIA Table Ceremony, escort VIP's, perform Head Table Cordon.  

Goals for future performances include, but are not limited to -  public speaking; change of command ceremonies; congressional receptions; work with schools and organizations for Drug Awareness; additional parades; Veterans Day Ceremonies.
